Brandon Nakashima vs Arthur Cazaux preview
Home favorite Brandon Nakashima will take on Arthur Cazaux in the second round of the US Open 2024.
Nakashima was drawn against 15th seed Holger Rune in the first round here. The two were on level terms in the first set until the American pulled ahead with a four-game run to take the set.
Nakashima seized control of the second set right off the bat, and broke Rune's serve twice to claim it. While the third set was more competitive, it was the American who dictated the play, and a single break of serve helped him wrap up a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 win.
Cazaux was up against two-time US Open semifinalist Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round. The opening set was quite one-sided as the Frenchman reeled off five consecutive games to clinch the set. He nabbed the second set as well to put himself in the driver's seat.
Carreno Busta struck first in the third set to go up a break, only for Cazaux to break back immediately. The former secured another break of serve to go 3-2 up, and the latter shut out the Spaniard for good this time as he bagged the next four games for a 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 win.
Brandon Nakashima vs Arthur Cazaux head-to-head

Brandon Nakashima vs Arthur Cazaux prediction
Nakashima started the season ranked 93rd, and has since worked his way back into the top 50. He has been in good form during this summer hardcourt swing. His win over Rune was his third over a top 20 player this month, having previously defeated Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul as well.
Cazaux tallied his first win in New York after bowing out in the first round last year. The Frenchman has won back-to-back matches on the ATP Tour only once in his career so far, which was at this year's Australian Open, where he made the fourth round.
Nakashima's best result at the US Open has been a third-round showing in 2022, and now he has a pretty good shot to match it. He didn't drop his serve even once against Rune and saved all six break points that he faced. He won 84 percent of his first serve points, and struck the same number of winners and unforced errors - 23.
Nakashima has also won twice as many matches compared to Cazaux this season. Based on their results, the American will be expected to continue his journey in New York.
Pick: Brandon Nakashima to win in four sets.
