Gauff will feel gutted by her lack of success this year. After a solid title defense in Auckland, she reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. The American also entered the final four in Paris, but couldn't tip the scales in her favor against Iga Swiatek. The Pole outsmarted her in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
The 20-year-old will enter New York on the back of underwhelming results in Toronto and Cincinnati. Following her second-round defeat to Yulia Putinseva at the Cincinnati Open, Gauff will look to steady the ship in New York and begin on a strong note.
Gracheva, on the contrary, made a promising start to the season by reaching the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic in Auckland, where she lost to Coco Gauff in straight sets. However, the French player struggled to keep up her momentum, registering early exits in the Australian Open, BNP Paribas Open, Miami Open, and the Italian Open.
The 24-year-old found her rhythm in Paris and reached the fourth round in the French Open, where she lost to Mirra Andreeva. Gracheva enters New York on the back of early exits in Cincinnati and Cleveland, where she lost to Iga Swiatek and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, respectively.

Critics have had high expectations from Coco Gauff after she claimed her first Major crown in the 2023 US Open. Since then, the American has done fairly well by amassing strong results on tour but is yet to maintain her form. She's managed to reach the semifinals of two Majors events and will be eager to go one step further in New York.
Gracheva, meanwhile, has been grinding out tough results on tour. She will be making her fourth appearance in the US Open and has reached the third round twice in New York. She outfoxed the likes of Maria Sakkari, and Katie Boulter this year and also took a set off Iga Swiatek in Cincinnati.
Gracheva will present a solid challenge to Gauff in the first round, but the American will surely be the favorite to come out on top. She hardly broke a sweat during their first meeting this year and should be able to pass this test again in New York.
