Compatriots Collins and Dolehide will clash in the first round of the 2024 US Open women's singles event on Tuesday, August 27.

Collins has thus far exceeded expectations in her farewell season on the tour. After losing to Iga Swiatek in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open, she announced her plans to retire before the end of the year. Since then, she has claimed trophies at the Charleston Open (WTA 500) and Miami Open (WTA 1000).

Also, she has produced impressive results including a runner-up finish in Strasbourg. She also reached the semifinals at the Italian Open and the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open, ATX Open, and the 2024 Olympic Games.

On the Grand Slam stage, however, she hasn't enjoyed similar success, crashing out of the French Open in the second round, and reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon.

The 11th seed lost 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Erika Andreeva in her opener at the Monterrey Open the previous week, whereas Dolehide was downed 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7) by fellow American Taylor Townsend in the first round of the Cincinnati Open.
