Daniil Medvedev vs Fabian Marozsan preview
Fifth seed and 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev will play Fabian Marozsan in the second round of the 2024 US Open. The Russian has not been in the best of form in the build-up to the New York Major. He lost in the opening rounds of the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Jiri Lehecka, respectively.
Medvedev's performances on hard courts have been pretty good in 2024 as he has made some deep runs in prestigious tournaments. These include reaching the finals of the Australian Open and the BNP Paribas Open while also making it to the semifinals of the Miami Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The World No. 5 made a slightly shaky start at the US Open, defeating Dusan Lajovic in four sets in the opening round.
Fabian Marozsan has a negative 20-24 record so far in 2024. The Hungarian player enters the US Open after a first-round exit at the Winston-Salem Open. The World No. 51 has been on a losing streak in some of the last tournaments he has played.
On hard courts, Marozsan had his best result at the Miami Open, reaching the quarterfinals, where he lost to Alexander Zverev. He also had a decent run at the BNP Paribas Open, reaching the fourth round, losing to Carlos Alcaraz. At the US Open, the Hungarian had a five-set marathon win against Hamad Medjedovic in the first round.

Daniil Medvedev vs Fabian Marozsan prediction
Medvedev's results on the hard courts speak for themselves. Apart from the one Major title on the surface, the Russian has reached five other heard-court Major finals. Overall he has 18 titles on the surface, with a 29-6 record at Flushing Meadows (before 2024), winning the title in 2021, and reaching the final in 2019, and last year.
This will be only the second time Marozsan will be playing at the main draw of the US Open, having reached the second round in his debut last year. The Hungarian is yet to win an ATP tour-level title in his career, with the result at the Miami Open early this year being his best hard-court result in his career.
The Hungarian played a long five-set match in the first round, and therefore it remains to be seen if can recover adequately. That, combined with Medvedev's quality on hard courts, should see the latter come out on top rather comprehensively.
