2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu will take on 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in a blockbuster first-round clash at US Open 2024. Whoever wins, will take on either sixth seed Jessica Pegula or Shelby Rogers in the second round of the New York Major.

Raducanu has given a respectable account of herself in 2024 following wrist and ankle surgeries last year. The Brit has won 18 of her 29 WTA Tour outings so far, reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, the semifinals at the Eastbourne International, and more recently, the quarterfinals of the Citi Open.
In the latter, Raducanu defeated eighth seed Elise Mertens 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 and Peyton Stearns 7-6(6), 6-2 to book her place in the last eight. Here, she put up a tough fight before losing 6-4, 5-7, 4-6 to eventual champion Paula Badosa.
Kenin, meanwhile, has hardly been as good as Raducanu this year. While the American ended her 2023 season by reaching the final at the San Diego and the semifinals at the Guadalajara Open, she endured a nine-match losing streak at the beginning of this season.
The World No. 55's results haven't improved since then, as she has failed to register more than two wins on the trot in main-draw matches. Her current form is a far cry from four years ago, when she won the Australian Open and finished runner-up at the French Open.
Kenin last competed at the Tennis in the Land in Cleveland, where she beat compatriot Katie Volynets to reach the second round. Here, the American lost 4-6, 3-6 to Clara Burel.

Kenin's groundstrokes don't have the same raw power as the former World No. 10 Brit. She does make up for it with her variety, though, allowing her to change shot direction at a moment's notice.
