Madison Keys vs Katerina Siniakova preview
Former finalist Madison Keys will open her 2024 US Open campaign against Katerina Siniakova in a tricky first-round encounter.
Keys, the 14th seed at this year’s tournament, comes into the tournament fresh off an early exit at the Canadian Open. The American has enjoyed a resurgence in 2024, with a title in Stuttgart and a return to the top-15.
Her season’s win-loss also stands at a solid 20-9 and she will be feeling good about her prospects of playing at home.
Siniakova, meanwhile, has also had a solid 2024 season. She has lifted a WTA 125k crown, made multiple Tour-level quarterfinals and returned to the top-40 in singles.
In her most recent Tour appearance, she made the semifinal at the Tennis in the Land Open. She posted wins over the likes of Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Peyton Stearns and may still make the final. She takes on Beatriz Haddad Maia in the last-four.

Madison Keys vs Katerina Siniakova prediction
The encounter will pit Madison Keys’ raw power against Katerina Siniakova’s dogged defence. In the quick New York conditions, the former should have the distinctive edge.
The courts at the US Open reward risk-takers and Keys, for one, likes to go after every ball. Her explosive forehand in particular can be hard to stop on days when she is hitting well. She also wins a fair few easy points on her serve, which has helped her win 73.5% of her service games all year.
Siniakova’s numbers are less encouraging at around 65%. She does possess the scrambling skills that can frustrate opponents, but a passive approach may not work against Keys.
The Czech is in good touch but will need to play aggressively and push her opponent onto the backfoot. Unless she can do so consistently enough, she risks being blown off the court.
Prediction: Keys to win in two tight sets.
