The US Open Tennis Championships, also known as the US Open, is the final Grand Slam tournament of the year. It is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world that consists of five categories: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles. The maiden US Open men's doubles tennis tournament was played in 1881 with Clarence Clark and Frederick Winslow Taylor winning the first title. From 1890 to 1906, tournaments were played in sections held in the country's east and west to determine the best two doubles teams.
Until 1978, the tournament was played at various locations such as Newport (1881–1914), Forest Hills (1915–1916, 1942–1945, 1968–1977), Longwood (1917–1933, 1935–1941, 1946–1967) and Germantown, Philadelphia (1934). Now, the tournament is played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
Richard Sears and Holcombe Ward hold the record for winning the most doubles titles, with six titles. The duo of Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson won the men's doubles title at the 2024 US Open.
