Reaction from the defending champion Andy Murray after he defeated Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer 7-5, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 to reach the third round of the US Open on Friday (30 August).
Andy Murray (defeated Leonardo Mayer 7-5, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1) – “I thought the first match was very good. Again, very different conditions today. I didn’t feel like I served as well today as I did in the first match. You know, different court, different conditions during the day. Look, I finished the match well today. I played well when I needed to. That’s a good sign. Yeah, obviously I want to keep improving as the tournament goes on. You don’t want to play your best right at the beginning, so I hope I can get better.”
Tomas Berdych (defeated Denis Kudla 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-3.) – “Yeah, I think so far my career goes like just up and I’m climbing higher and higher, which is good. So it means, you know, every experience I went through, I’m able to manage it for the future. So that’s what I did so far from last year. But, yeah, I mean, it’s matter of I would say patient about the whole experience that I went through. Yeah, I feel good. I feel good on the court. I have a good rhythm, hitting ball clearly. That’s what I need for my game.”
