Former Eastbourne champion Caroline Wozniacki was stunned in the semi-finals of the Aegon International tournament on Friday as American qualifier Jamie Hampton advanced with a 6-7 (8), 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Jamie Hampton reached the first final of her career when she defeated 2009 champion Caroline Wozniacki 6-7 (8), 7-5, 6-3 at the Eastbourne Championships on Friday.
After returning from a rain delay former world number one Wozniacki let slip a match point in the second set and Hampton fought back to take the match into a deciding set.
In the final set, Wozniacki netted a backhand to give Hampton a decisive break for 5-3 and she went on to take the match.
She’ll attempt to become the first American to take the title since Chanda Rubin beat Conchita Martinez in 2003 when she faces Russian Elena Vesnina in Saturday’s final.
