Video: Nadal returns to training after US Open success

US Open Champion Rafael Nadal returned to training on Thursday.

Three days after his triumph at Flushing Meadows, Rafael Nadal returned to the clay courts of Spain on Thursday.

With a 100% winning record from the hardcourt season, the former world number one is enjoying some of the best form of his life.

The Spaniard beat world number one Novak Djokovic 6-2 3-6 6-4 6-1 in the US Open final on Monday.

Capturing the 13th Grand Slam title of his career to cap a season that he has described as his most “emotional” yet.

The 27 year-old was out of the game for seven months last season with a serious knee injury, and while he came back strongly to win his eighth French Open title at Roland Garros in June, he then suffered the frustration of a first round defeat at Wimbledon just a matter of weeks later, with unseeded Belgian Steve Darcis beating him in straight sets.

His recent win at Flushing Meadows gave him the second US Open title of his career, and he now sits just one Grand Slam title behind Pete Sampras on 14, and four behind all-time leader Roger Federer.
