Currently ranked No. 4 in the world in singles, Daniil Medvedev is a professional tennis player from Russia. He previously held the No. 1 spot for a total of 16 weeks. Medvedev has won 20 ATP tour singles matches, including the 2021 US Open and the 2020 ATP Finals. He is the sixth player in history to have won six Masters titles in six different venues.

After Andy Murray in 2016, Medvedev became the first player outside of the Big Three to hold the world No. 1 ranking in February 2022. He has always been named among the world's best despite losing several major finals. He has an unorthodox style of play, which is more effective than aesthetic. Despite a tough tournament, Medvedev won the 2024 Laver Cup with Team Europe.

At the 2024 Australian Open, Daniil Medvedev lost his third final at the tournament. He was defeated by Italian prodigy Jannik Sinner 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 in the final. He became the only man in the Open Era to lose two major finals from a two-set lead. Medvedev set the record for spending the most time on court at a Grand Slam and for the most sets played in a singles major, at 31 sets.

Medvedev won three consecutive titles in the early 2023 season, including the Dubai Open, Qatar ExxonMobil Open, and the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam. He finished semifinalist at the 2024 Wimbledon Open, registering a win over #1 seed Jannik Sinner in five sets. However, he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. Medvedev played Sinner in the quarterfinals of the 2024 US Open, but fell short.

After winning his match in Mexico, Medvedev spoke with CNN about the situation in his home country and declared that he is "all for peace."

“In this moment, you understand that tennis sometimes is not that important,” Medvedev stated. He added, “Being a tennis player, I want to promote peace all over the world. We play in so many different countries. I’ve been in so many countries as a junior and as a pro. It’s just not easy to hear all this news.” After winning, Rublev wrote "No war please" on camera as another proponent of peace. He gave an interview where he described his position.

“In these moments, you realize that my match is not important. It’s not about my match, how it affects me.
