Nick Kyrgios recently reacted to Lleyton Hewitt's son Cruz training with Jannik Sinner with a series of comments that have stirred controversy. The Aussie has often taken digs at Sinner ever since news of the Italian's doping saga emerged.
Before the US Open, it was claimed that Jannik Sinner tested positive for the banned substance Clostebol during the Indian Wells Masters in 2024. However, the International Tennis Integrity Agency ruled that the World No. 1 bore no fault or negligence of his own. Eventually, Sinner only had to forfeit his prize money and ranking points from the Masters 1000 tournament.
Ever since then, Nick Kyrgios has often been taking digs at the Italian. Most recently, the Aussie reacted to a picture that Cruz Hewitt shared on Instagram. The 16-year-old, who is the son of former World No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, shared an image of himself with Jannik Sinner after a training session of the two.
Kyrgios reacted to this with a series of comments, one of which included a series of broken heart emojis.
"Love ya Cruz but this is wild"
"Cooked post 💉"
"Thought we were boys 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 "
Several fans reacted to the Aussie's antics, with one calling it pathetic.
"It’s pretty pathetic. Maybe we should call it out, but ultimately attention is what that man wants and I don’t feel like I want to give him anymore," the fan said.
Another fan slammed Kyrgios for "targeting a minor", calling his behavior "obsessive" and "hateful".
"Absolutely. It’s beyond the pale. Obsessive, hateful behaviour now targeting a minor. The Australian Tennis Federation or whatever it’s called needs to censure him seriously," the fan said.
Another fan called Kyrgios' comments "an act of bullying".
"It’s disgraceful that Nick Kyrgios, a professional who can’t make headlines on the court, resorts to social media attacks against a 16-year-old boy. His evident obsession with Sinner makes it even more pathetic. These acts of bullying are unacceptable and trample on the core values of tennis. The @atptour must act immediately to stop this behavior and protect young talents!
