All eyes will be on Roger Federer as he makes his return to the Dubai Duty-Free Championships this week. A year after skipping it, the Swiss maestro will be eager to add silverware to his trophy-laden cabinet at a tournament where he has tasted glory as many as seven times.
An eighth title at this prestigious Middle Eastern event will also help Federer to erase the memories of the shock pre-quarter-final defeat he suffered at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open.
The 37-year-old, seeded second at this ATP 500 tournament this time around, will face a tricky opener in Philipp Kohlschreiber in his quest for more success in the desert.
World No. 6 Kei Nishikori is the top seed this time as he aims to keep building on his fine start to the year that saw him reach the quarter-finals in Melbourne and the semi-finals in Rotterdam.

Just like Federer, the third-seeded Marin Cilic will also be playing his first tournament since exiting the Australian Open in the Round of 16. The World No. 10 has one of the toughest opening rounds as he has been drawn to face the Rotterdam champion, Gael Monfils.
While the fourth-seeded Karen Khachanov is yet to make his mark so far this year, it's Tsitsipas who can inflict some damage on the biggest stars. The World No. 11, seeded fifth, will be coming to Dubai right after winning the title in Marseille and could ride on that confidence to put up a sterling show.
