The much-anticipated 2019 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, also called as Dubai Tennis Championships is here and some of the top players from the ATP circuit will take on each other in one of the best ATP 500 tournaments in Tennis. The ATP 500 tournament will get underway on February 25 and go all the way till March 2. But, before that, the best women on the WTA circuit will battle it out for the title in a WTA Premier 5 event that got underway at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on February 17.
As many as 64 female competitors from around the world will be a part of the tournament which will have the reigning US Open and Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka as the top seed. World number 2 Petra Kvitova, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina etc. will be a part of the tournament. The WTA tournament will have nine of the top 10 ranked players in the WTA circuit and the only one who is missing is American international Sloane Stephens, who is ranked number 4 in the world.
Ukraine's Elina Svitolina is the defending champion in the tournament as she defeated Russia's Daria Kasatkina 6-4, 6-0 in the final of the 2018 edition and she is back again as the fifth seed to defend her title. This is the year's first Premier 5 event and a maximum of 900 points and prize money of $2,828,000 will be at stake for the WTA tournament.
