He achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 4 on November 15, 1999 and won a total of 19 ATP singles titles, including three Masters 1000 titles. His best Grand Slam performance came at the 1999 Australian Open, where he lost in the finals against Yevgeny Kafelnikov in four sets.

Enqvist also helped his country lift the Davis Cup twice in 1997 and 1998. Enqvist has received many awards and honors, including the ATP Most Improved Player in 1995. He currently works as a sports commentator for Eurosport in Sweden and is also the vice-captain of Team Europe in the Laver Cup.

Enqvist has been provisionally coaching world No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas since February 2022. He has been part of the Tsitsipas team since the start of the 2022 Rotterdam Open. During a press conference, Tsitsipas confirmed the addition of Enqvist to his team. He said he included Enqvist in the team to get a different perspective on tennis.

He also said that he is open to all advice from Enqvist, and they tend to understand each other well. According to online reports, Tsitsipas decided to add Thomas Enqvist to his team after receiving a code violation for receiving coaching advice from his father at the semifinal of the Australian Open.
