At the 2025 Australian Open, several high-profile tennis couples entered the tournament with high ambition. The couples featured at the Grand Slam are Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya, Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, and Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils.

Monfils and Svitolina are the only couple remaining together in the main draw. They both advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open.


#4 Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas

Paula Badosa, seeded 11th, showcased her prowess by advancing to the fourth round. She secured victories over Wang Xinyu (6-3, 7-6), Talia Gibson (6-1, 6-0), and Marta Kostyuk (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) and Olga Danilovic (6-1, 7-6(2). The Spaniard will be facing Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals, who has been in great form.

In contrast, Stefanos Tsitsipas, also seeded 11th, faced an early exit, which was one of the major upsets of the tournament. He was defeated in the first round by Alex Michelsen with a scoreline of 5-7, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6.


#3 Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya

Defending champion and top seed Jannik Sinner advanced to the fourth round, defeating Nicolas Jarry (7-6, 7-6, 6-1), Tristan Schoolkate (4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3), and Marcos Giron (6-3, 6-4, 6-2). The Italian will face the 13th seed of the tournament, Holger Rune, on January 20. With two top players heading against each other, it will be a contest to watch out for.

Anna Kalinskaya withdrew from the tournament just minutes before her first-round match against Kimberly Birrell due to a viral illness.


#2 Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur

Alex de Minaur, seeded eighth, advanced to the fourth round with victories over Botic Van de Zandschulp (6-1, 7-5, 6-4), Tristan Boyer (6-2, 6-4, 6-3) and Francisco Cerundolo (7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3). The local star will be facing Alex Michelsen on January 20, the crowd has a lot of expectations from de Minaur as he is the highest-seeded Australian in the tournament.

Katie Boulter, the 22nd seed, won her opening match against Rebecca Marino (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) but was eliminated in the second round by Veronika Kudermetova (6-7, 6-2, 2-6).


#1 Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils

The power couple, Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils has been very impressive till now in the tournament. Svitolina, seeded 28th, defeated Sorana Cirstea (6-4, 6-4), Caroline Dolehide (6-1, 6-4), and, Jasmine Paolini (2-6, 6-4, 6-0) to reach the fourth round. The former World No. 3 has been on the tour for more than 14 years and is still yet to claim a major title. Her best Grand Slam results have been reaching the semifinals in Wimbledon and US Open, she is aiming to surpass that this time around. Svitolina will face Veronika Kudermetova on January 20 in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Monfils on the other hand, unseeded, secured wins over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4) and Daniel Altmaier (7-5, 6-3, 7-6), and Taylor Fritz (3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 6-4). The Veteran French player, just like his wife, has never won a Grand Slam title in his 20 years long career.

He is the oldest player in the singles category, across both men’s and women’s events. The 38-year-old looks in great shape and can pose a great threat to America’s Ben Shelton in the fourth round of the tournament. Both players are known for their flamboyant style of play on the court, promising an entertaining match for viewers. They are scheduled to play on Monday, January 20.
