After some top class action in the men’s semis, more is expected from the Womens single’s final between Serena Williams and Angnieszka Radwanska on Saturday.
Radwanska,in her first ever Wimbledon final will look to play to her strengths to beat Williams. If Radwanska does win,she has a great chance to go to the No.1 spot in the Tennis rankings.
- In the quarters, she beat Angelique Kerber, 6-3 6-4 and in the semis she beat Maria Kirilenko, 7-5 4-6 7-5.
On the other hand,Williams will look to win her fifth Wimbledon title and would be high on motivation, especially after sister Venus crashed out in the first round itself this year.
- Serena beat Victoria Azarenka, 6-3 7-6(8/6) in the quarters and in the semis she beat Petra Kvitova,6-3 7-5.
- Previous meetings: Radwanska beat Williams, 6-2 6-3 in last years French Open final and won 6-4 6-1 in Miami earlier this year too.
- Their only Wimbledon meeting was in 2009, when Williams won by 6-1 6-2.
- Williams has a 5-3 career record against Radwanska.
Radwanska says : “The most important thing is that i am feeling good on the court and playing some good tennis, despite not being able to talk much away from the court. Serena has been a role model for many players my age”. She adds, “I wish I could watch the match in person at the Wimbledon court”.
“I will do whatever it takes to make sure I’m ready to play the best I can.Serena’s playing amazing tennis at the moment. I don’t really have much to lose, so I’m going to try my best and we’ll see,” added the third seed.
“I played Serena a couple of times, but it was a long time ago,” said the Pole. “I didn’t play her in the last few years. But it’s always tough. She’s a very tough opponent and hits the ball very well. Of course she’s playing great tennis on grass”.
“I will do whatever it takes to make sure I’m ready to play the best I can”,she added.
“Agnieszka has had a better year than I have,” admitted Wiliams.”She’s been way more consistent than me. She’s done really well, so she’s ranked higher than me.”I have to go out there and fight for this. This is by no means going to be easy. Never ever do I underestimate any opponent. She’s out there to try her best.””I really like Aga. She’s a great girl.”
“The older I get, the better I serve, and the more I like to hit aces,” Williams said.”But in my whole career, I’ve hit a lot of aces throughout tournaments.I don’t know how it got better. I really don’t know. It’s not like I go home and I work on buckets and buckets of serves. Maybe it’s a natural shot for me”.
Radwanska’s illness may prove to be a major factor for Williams in the final. Not an easy game to predict, only time will tell whether Williams will win her fifth crown or will Radwanska find glory in her first ever Wimbledon title.
