With rain playing spoilsport on day 3 of Wimbledon many fixtures which were supposed to be played on the 30th of June were postponed to the 1st of July.
But we did get to witness many familiar faces ply their trade and entertain the audiences at SW19. First up, Britain’s own world number 2 Andy Murray came out all guns blazing against his Chinese opponent Lu Hsen Yen.
It took little time as a possessed Murray put away his opponent in straight sets 6-3 6-2 6-1. With a display of sublime skill and energy, 2013 Champion Murray’s title bid is gaining momentum.
In other fixtures, seeds Richard Gasquet, Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic all prevailed with hard-fought victories in their respective matches to proceed to the next round of the championships.
The women’s draw saw Simona Halep decimate former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone in straight sets. It was a display of class mixed with brute force from the Romanian former No. 2.
World Number 3 Agnieszka Radwanska and world number 8 and five-timeVenus Williams prevailed in their respective matches, but the Championships witnessed two major shock defeats.
In the first big upset at the championships number 2 seed Garbine Muguruza was knocked out by qualifier Jana Cepelova in straight sets, 6-3 6-2.
The Spaniard looked out of sorts right from the beginning, and her lesser-known opponent took full advantage.
In the other big upset World number 22 Jelena Jankovic was knocked out as well after she suffered a defeat at the hands of New Zealander Erakovic in 3 hard fought sets. It seems the lesser ranked players have taken a leaf out of Marcus Willis’ book and put in spirited displays resulting in shock results.
With many of the fixtures of day 4 yet to be played day 5 will see a lot of the promised action as well as entertainment for the audience at the Championships.

Preview-
Day 5 will see limited action in both the men’s and women’s singles draws.
Former finalist and world number 10 Thomas Berdych, American John Isner, Nick Krygios and number 12 seed Tsonga are some of the players who will be in action in their respective round of 64 matches.
The fixture of the day will be played on center court when World number 5 Stan Wawrinka faces a resurgent Juan Martin Del Potro. The Argentine has had a forgetful 18 months facing injury after injury which halted his development as a player. But now fit and firing we can definitely expect Del-Potro to push Wawrinka to the limit and possibly the first high-profile casualty at SW19.
In the women’s section World number 1 Serena Williams faces fellow American Christina Mchale who had earlier beaten veteran, Daniel Hantuchova. Serena remains favorite to win but we fully expect a spirited display from Mchale after what we witnessed when Marcus Willis played Federer.
In the round of 32 will see the number 5 seed Simona Halep go up against world number 26 Kiki Bertens in what promises to be a hard-fought affair. In other matches veteran, Svetlana Kuznetsova faces qualifier Moore in her round of 64 fixture.
Day 5 promises to be another action-packed day at Wimbledon with the last of the round of 64 fixtures being played.
