Close but no cigar

Wimbledon 2017 was an impressive spectacle as it saw some great runs put together by players in both the men's and women's sections.

Five-time champion Venus Williams turned back the clock as she dominated her opponents on her way to the final, where the 37-year-old was overpowered by Garbine Muguruza.

Sam Querrey's journey to the semi-finals made him the first American man to reach the last four of a Grand Slam since 2009. He took down defending champion Andy Murray on his way, just like the way he defeated the then defending champion Novak Djokovic in 2016.

Though he could not put up much of a challenge in the final, Marin Cilic played some of the best tennis of his career, and showed his 2014 US Open win was not a flash in the pan.

35-year-old Gilles Muller enjoyed his best-ever result at a Grand Slam as well, losing in the quarter-finals to eventual finalist Cilic, as he displayed some great tennis and defeated Rafael Nadal in the fourth round for only the second time at Wimbledon. The previous win had come in 2005.
