#2 Daniil Medvedev
One player who has come leaps and bounds in 2019 is the young Russian – Daniil Medvedev. He has reached a career-high ranking of 13 this year and made his first Masters 1000 semi-final this year at Monte Carlo.
Even though I feel Medvedev’s best chance of winning a grand slam this year will be on the slower hard courts at the US Open, he could still be very dangerous on grass for a variety of reasons.
For starters, Medvedev comes into Wimbledon with some confidence. He won the biggestmatch of his career when he beat World No.1, Novak Djokovic, in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo masters.
He knows what it takes to compete against the big boys at the grandest of stages. Also, he possesses a potent serve and the fast grass courts should leverage his baseline strokes perfectly.
Medvedev should reach the quarter final stage and that could be defining match for him - against the defending champion Novak Djokovic. Apart from his win against the Serb at Monte Carlo, Medvedev also won a set against Djokovic in Melbourne and will come into the match with a lot of confidence.
If the Russian can serve well and not let Djokovic dictate points, he could have a shot at beating the Serb.
Another great plus point for Medvedev is his strong mental strength which could take him deep into the Wimbledon championships.
