Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul preview
Third seed Carlos Alcaraz is set to continue his title defense at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships against 12th seed Tommy Paul in a blockbuster quarterfinal clash on Tuesday, July 9.

Alcaraz kicked off his grasscourt swing at the cinch Championships as the defending champion. He brushed aside Francisco Cerundolo in the opener before suffering a shock 7-6(3), 6-3 defeat at the hands of an in-form Jack Draper.
Alcaraz opened his Wimbledon campaign with a 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-2 victory over Estonian youngster Mark Lajal in the opening round. He then saw off an in-form Aleksandar Vukic in the second round in straight sets, 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-2.
His third-round encounter against 29th seed Frances Tiafoe was a bull-fight from start to finish with the Spaniard ultimately scoring a 5-7, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-2 comeback victory. 16th seed Ugo Humbert presented Alcaraz with another tough challenge in the fourth round. A brilliant display from the back of the court ensured he passed the test in four sets 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
Tommy Paul, meanwhile, entered the All England Club on the back of his biggest title yet at the cinch Championships. He beat the likes of Alejandro Tabilo, Jack Draper and Sebastian Korda before seeing off Lorenzo Musetti in the final.
Paul kicked off his Wimbledon campaign with a 6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win against Pedro Martinez. He plowed back from two sets down in the subsequent round against Otto Virtanen to ultimately seal a 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 win.
Up against 23rd seed Alexander Bublik in the third round, Paul sealed a routine 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory and then another in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 against Roberto Bautista Agut, earning his first Wimbledon quarterfinals appearance.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Tommy Paul prediction
Carlos Alcaraz hasn't had it easy at the Championships this year. His last two rounds in particular have been extremely tough and he's had to dig deep to sniff out the win. He has, however, impressed on serve and every time he has come to the net.
He won 63 points on his first serve and hit 14 aces in his previous encounter. He has a 75% break point conversion rate, winning a total of 41 receiving points out of the 103 overall.

Tommy Paul, meanwhile, has carried his rich vein of form from the Queen's Club into the All England Club. He's been scintillating in every match except during his second-round encounter. He's also been solid on serve and hits a hard ball from the back of the court. He's not been afraid to attack the net and it has paid dividends more often than not.
His ability to dictate play from the baseline has also worked tremendously well in his favor and could be an important weapon going forward.
Each one of Alcaraz and Paul's encounters in the past have been extremely tight and we could very likely be in for another such face-off. The American could very well get off to a quick start and give Alcaraz a real run for his money in the opening stages.
The Spaniard remains the firm favorite to come through given his overall experience and his past heroics at the Club. Paul will have to play a near spotless game if he is to down the defending champion.
Pick: Alcaraz in five sets.
