Coco Gauff vs Caroline Dolehide preview
Second seed Coco Gauff is set to open her 2024 Wimbledon campaign against Caroline Dolehide in an all-American first-round clash on Monday, July 1.
Gauff culminated her run on the clay on a high with a couple of semifinal runs in Rome and France. She kicked off her grass-court swing at the ecotrans Ladies Open in Berlin against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. The first set was tight, with Gauff edging it in the tie-breaker. The second set was much more one-sided, with the American eventually sealing a 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory.
Gauff advanced to her second semifinal in Berlin without much fuss after world No. 10 Ons Jabeur was forced to pull out of their quarterfinal contest after going down 7-6 (9) in a tightly contested first set. Up against compatriot and good friend Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, Gauff went down in straight sets (5-7, 6-7(2)).
Dolehide, meanwhile, opened her grass-court swing at the Rothesay Open in Nottingham where she lost her opener to Francesca Jones in straight sets 7-6 (3), 6-3. She took part in the Rothesay Classic in Birmingham next and successfully navigated through the qualifiers with wins over Eden Silva and Elina Avanesyan to book herself a berth in the main draw.
Dolehide upset former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova in the opening round, coming back from a set down to seal an emphatic 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory. She dominated Elise Mertens in the second round for a set and a half before the Belgian was forced to withdraw with an injury trailing 3-6, 0-3.
Up against Yulia Putinseva in the quarterfinals, Dolehide played some incredible all-around tennis but eventually fell short in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-1. Seeded eighth in at the Rothesay International in Eastbourne last week, she went down to Viktorija Golubic in the opening round in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.

Coco Gauff vs Caroline Dolehide predictions
Coco Gauff has been in good form on the grass this year despite her semifinal defeat in Berlin. She looks to have transitioned well and continues to impress on serve. She attacked the net much more than often in Berlin, and it paid dividends on most occasions. She will be a real force to be reckoned with at the Wimbledon Championships if she can remain consistent.
Dolehide, meanwhile, had a great week in Eastbourne but failed to move past her opening rounds in the other two events. While she's been good from the back of the court, she's lack consistency all-around. Unforced errors have been a major concern and it could pose to be a real hurdle against Gauff.
Gauff enters the encounter the firm favorite to go through and there is no reason to think otherwise. She's dominated Dolehide in their previous two encounters and more of the same could follow if Dolehide isn't at the top of her mark.
Pick: Gauff in straight sets.
