Nicolas Jarry vs Denis Shapovalov preview
Nicolas Jarry will square off against former top-10 player Denis Shapovalov in the first round of the 2024 Wimbledon.
Jarry has blown hot and cold this season. After a slow start to the year, including a first-round exit from the Australian Open, he reached the final of the Argentina Open. He even beat Carlos Alcaraz en route to the summit clash but fell to Facundo Diaz Acosta in the final.
After another string of early losses, Jarry bounced back with a quarterfinal finish at the Miami Open. He couldn't sustain the momentum and started the European clay swing with three straight losses. He then made the biggest final of his career at the Italian Open but lost to Alexander Zverev.
Jarry couldn't capitalize on his good run of form and was eliminated by Corentin Moutet in the first round of the French Open. He hasn't competed since that loss and has arrived at Wimbledon without contesting a match on grass.
Shapovalov went on a hiatus after last year's Wimbledon to recover from an injury. His comeback this year has started to garner some pace in recent months. His best result has been a third-round finish at the Miami Open, the Madrid Open, and the French Open.
The Canadian began his time on grass at the Boss Open in Stuttgart. He beat qualifier Matteo Martineau in straight sets in his opener and then lost to Matteo Berrettini in the second round.

Nicolas Jarry vs Denis Shapovalov prediction
Jarry's inconsistent results, along with his lack of match play in recent weeks, could prevent him from making an impact at Wimbledon. His best result here has been a third-round showing, which he managed to achieve last year, and has a 3-4 overall record at the venue.
Shapovalov, on the other hand, has performed quite well at the All England Club in recent years. He made the fourth round last year and the semifinals in 2021. His big serve coupled with his bold shotmaking has yielded rich dividends on grass.
However, the Canadian does tend to go a little overboard at times and throws caution to the wind when it comes to his shotmaking. His high-risk style of tennis results in a ton of errors when he's not at his best.
Shapovalov's results in recent months have been quite decent, and with three wins over top-30 players this year, he has proven that he's ready to outplay quality opponents. It wouldn't be surprising to see him take out Jarry as well.
Pick: Denis Shapovalov to win in four sets.
