Great news for Indian tennis as a new Tennis star in the making has shown his determination and zeal to excel. And ladies and gentlemen, the name is HARSH MANKAD. For the first time in his fledgling career he has qualified for the grand slam main draw. He, along with his partner Ilija Bozoljac qualified for doubles event at Wimbledon 2010.
Mankad and his Serbian partner Ilija defeated Austrian-German pair of Alexander Peya and Bjorn Phau 7-6(5) 6-4 in the second and final qualifying round. With his qualification for the Wimbledon 2010 main draw it is assured that four Indian players will represent India in the doubles event at this Wimbledon.
Now, all eyes will be on Somdev Devvaraman, who is just a step away from qualifying. He is paired with Philippines player ‘Treat Huey Conard’. For India, Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna will have a direct entry due to their superior rankings.
Let’s hope we get good performances from Indian contingent ;)
