Christopher Eubanks vs Adam Walton preview
Christopher Eubanks will open his Winston-Salem campaign against Australia's Adam Walton in the first round on Sunday, August 18.
Eubanks has been a shadow of his past self so far in 2024. He's struggled to stay consistently and currently sits on an 8-17 match record. Despite his subpar start to the season, big things were expected of him on grass after his quarterfinal run at Wimbledon last year. However, he ended up losing in the first round of Wimbledon this year and picked up just two wins in six matches on grass this season.
Eubanks's best result of the year came last month in Newport where he reached the semifinals. Seeded fourth, he saw off compatriot Ethan Quinn and sixth seed Aleksandar Vukic, before going down to second seed Marcos Giron in three tight sets.
Walton, meanwhile, has scarcely featured on the ATP tour and has amassed a paltry 3-8 match record so far. His wins came in Mallorca, Wimbledon, and Atlanta.
Walton's found plenty of success on the challenger circuit on the contrary. He is 2-3 in finals, having won the crowns in Burnie, Australia, and Santaizi, Taiwan. He took part in the Canadian Open last week but failed to make it through the qualifiers. At the Citi Open the week before, he lost his first round main draw match.

Christopher Eubanks vs Adam Walton prediction
Christopher Eubanks has had a subpar year in contrast to his heroics last year and has found it incredibly hard to get his season going. He's picked up just eight wins all year and has yet to make it to the finals of an event. His serve has lacked the usual firepower and so has his baseline gameplay.
Walton on the contrary may not have impressed on the ATP tour this season, but his stats on the Challenger circuit say otherwise. While his big match play can be questioned, there is no denying that he can cause an upset. Currently ranked 95 in the world, Walton will be keen to snatch the win in the leadup to the US Open.
Eubanks enters the contest as the slight favorite given his superior hard court record and his experience. Walton is no slouch, however, and will most definitely give Eubanks a serious run for his money. The winner will play 14th seed Hugo Gaston next.
Pick: Eubanks in straight sets.
