Coco Gauff vs Jessica Pegula preview
Third seed Coco Gauff will take on Jessica Pegula in the round robin of the WTA Finals on November 3.
Gauff has won 50 out of 66 matches so far in the 2024 season, notably winning the China Open. The 20-year-old's most recent tournament was the Wuhan Open, which she started with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Viktoriya Tomova.
The American then registered comprehensive wins over 13th seed Marta Kostyuk (6-4, 6-1) and Magda Linette (6-0, 6-4) to reach the semifinals. Here, she faced Aryna Sabalenka and won the first set 6-1. However, the Belarusian bounced back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4.
Jessica Pegula has won 39 out of 53 matches so far in 2024, most notably winning the Canadian Open, while reaching the finals of the US Open and the Cincinnati Open.
The 30-year-old enters the WTA Finals following a disappointing outing at the Wuhan Open. Seeded second, Pegula received a walkover to the second round, where she led 6-2, 2-0 over Anastasia Potapova before the Russian retired due to injury.
The American faced Wang Xinyu in the third round and suffered a 3-6, 5-7 defeat.

Coco Gauff vs Jessica Pegula prediction
Pegula has a considerable head-to-head lead over Gauff, so one could argue she could have an edge entering the match. However, the 20-year-old has produced some impressive performances lately and should definitely not be written off.
Gauff loves to play aggressively and she will look to make the most out of her powerful hitting. However, the American needs to make sure not to hit too many unforced errors. Another aspect of her game that the 20-year-old needs to be careful about is her serve, having served 21 double-faults in her last match, which was the Wuhan Open semifinal against Aryna Sabalenka.
Pegula is not the most powerful hitter but her groundstrokes are solid and her high rally endurance and stamina will come in handy to deal with Gauff's aggression. The 30-year-old's durability and consistent game will be key if she is to come out on top.
While Pegula is a formidable opponent, her performances after the US Open haven't been too impressive. Coco Gauff, on the other hand, has had some fine performances in Asia and if she can replicate that, there is a fair chance of her coming out on top.
Pick: Gauff to win in three sets.
