Coco Gauff vs Marta Kostyuk preview
Fourth seed Coco Gauff will take on 13th seed Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round of the 2024 Wuhan Open on Thursday, October 10.
Gauff entered Wuhan fresh off her China Open triumph, securing her second title of the year. Despite a challenging North American hardcourt season, she defied the odds en route to the crown. She defeated Katie Boulter, Naomi Osaka, and Paula Badosa, before cruising past Karolina Muchova in the final to clinch just her second WTA 1000 title, also maintaining a perfect record in hardcourt finals.
Gauff carried her momentum into the Wuhan Open, starting with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Viktoriya Tomova in the second round, after receiving a first-round bye.
Kostyuk, meanwhile, has struggled to make deep runs despite her early-round success in recent tournaments. A few weeks ago, she reached the quarterfinals in Korea where she lost to Diana Shnaider. Her China Open run ended disappointingly in her opener against Katie Volynets.
Kostyuk opened her Wuhan Open campaign with a hard-fought 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(2) comeback win against Elina Avanesyan. She advanced to the last 16 after Amanda Anisimova withdrew ahead of their second-round match.
Coco Gauff vs Marta Kostyuk head-to-head
Coco Gauff leads Marta Kostyuk 2-1 in their head-to-head, but Kostyuk won their previous encounter in Stuttgart earlier this year. Gauff, however, holds the advantage on hard courts, having won both of their matches on the surface.

Coco Gauff vs Marta Kostyuk prediction
Gauff has been in exceptional shape recently and continued to impress in her Wuhan Open opener. She served brilliantly, winning 83% of points behind her first serve and 88% on her second, while also firing five aces. She was equally dominant on return, converting five of nine break points and winning 31 of 62 return points.
In contrast, Kostyuk has struggled for consistency off late and was handed another test in her Wuhan opener. She did, however, display incredible resilience and eventually sealed the win. Despite a shaky performance on serve, she was clinical on return, converting seven of 12 break points and winning 60 of 117 return points.
Gauff enters their matchup with an impressive 47-14 record for the year, while Kostyuk holds a 31-18 record. Gauff has been more successful on hard courts and in WTA 1000 events, having claimed the title in Beijing, while Kostyuk’s best result was a semifinal appearance at Indian Wells.
While an exciting matchup is anticipated, all signs point to the American, Gauff, as the favorite to secure the win.
Pick: Coco Gauff in straight sets.
