21-year-old Indian tennis star Yuki Bhambri has earned a wild card for the Australian Open 2014 in men’s doubles category as the winner from Asia-Pacific region.
Yuki partnering with New Zealand’s Michael Venus defeated the 4th seeded Chinese pair of Mao-Xin Gong and Zhe Li 7-6(3) 1-6 10-5 in the final.
Mao and Zhe, who knocked out the top seeded Taipei pair of Hsin Han Lee and Hsien Yin Peng in the semifinals started the match with a bang as they got the service break in the 4th game of the opening set but the 2nd seeded Indo-Kiwi pair fought back strongly and took the break back from the Chinese opponents in the 8th game.The set went to a tie breaker in which Yuki and Venus proved their brilliance.
Second set was a completely one sided as the Chinese pair totally thrashed their higher ranked opponents. With winning percentage of 100 on the first and second serve, Chinese pair had absolutely no difficulty in winning the second set.
Third set was a super tie breaker in which the Indo-Kiwi completely dominated over the local pair.
Yuki Bhambri failed to qualify in the singles event after going down to the World No. 205 Di Wu in a semifinal match which lasted for an hour and 29 minutes at Luohu Tennis Club in Shenzhen, China. Yuki, who was the second seeded player lost 6-7 (6) 4-6 to the third seeded Chinese player Di Wu.
2014 Australian Open will take place in Melbourne from 13th Jan to 26th Jan.
