Yuki Bhambri qualified for the Australian Open main draw after beating Chase Buchanan from United States 6-3 , 6-4 in the final round of the qualifiers. Chase Buchanan is ranked 179th in the world while Bhambri is ranked 314th. Bhambri fired 4 aces compared to Buchanan’s 2. Buchanan also caused many unforced errors (21 including 2 double faults) which further more dented his chance against Bhambri. Bhambri capitalised on most of the errors and was the better player at the end of the game.
Bhambri was in control of the game from the very beginning. He easily won the first set 6-3 in very little time. He continued his winning momentum in the second set giving Buchanan no chance to break his serve. Bhambri’s attacking mentality helped him finish the match in an hour and 15 minutes.
He had earlier beaten Evegeny Donskoy of Russia in the first round 4-6, 6-1, 8-6 and then followed up with a win agianst Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan 7-6, 6-3. Aged 22 Yuki Bhambri has had memorable moments in the Australian Open where he won the junior singles title of the Australian Open in 2009. He is the only Indian singles player in the main draw of the Australian Open this year. His Indian counterparts Somdev Devvarman and Ramkumar Ramanathan failed to qualify for the main draw after they lost in the first round of the qualifiers.
