BNP Paribas Open 2024 Introduction

One of the most awaited tennis events for both players and fans worldwide, the BNP Paribas Open is a classic tennis event which is often called the Fifth Grand Slam. Formed by former tennis champion Raymond Moore and Charlie Pasarell, BNP Paribas Open 2024 naming rights have been held by multinational bank BNP Paribas since 2009. The WTA tournament started out with the name Virginia Slims of Indian Wells in 1989-1990.

Later, the name of the event changed to Virginia Slims of Palm Springs, the Matrix Essentials Evert Cup, the Evert Cup, the State Farm Evert Cup, the Tennis Masters Series, and then the Pacific Life Open till 2008.

In 2009, both the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and the tournament were sold to Larry Ellison. The player winning both the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open back-to-back will be termed the winner of the Sunshine Double. The tournament is played on the outdoor hard courts.

Last year, Elena Rybakina emerged victorious, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. It was her first WTA 1000 title in her career. Iga Swiatek was the defending champion but lost to Rybakina in the semi-finals. The duo of Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova were the winners in the doubles category.
