While the media and the whole of our country went berserk with Milind Soman competing in Iron Man competitions across the world, there has been another Indian who is charting a similar trail for himself.
Unlike other aficionados, athletics wasn’t always Abhishek Mishra’s calling though. An engineer with a Masters in Marketing & International Business, he was employed at GE before the running bug caught up with him. Currently in transit to participate in the Iron Man competition in Spain on 26th of this month, this 31 year old describes himself as a “Triathlete, Marathoner, Ultra Runner, Adventurer, Adrenalin Junkie and a Fitness Enthusiast”.
Quite the multi tasker as is evident from the aforementioned, he is also the founder of Tabono Sports and Entertainment, a Gurgaon based firm.
While we reached out to him just before he left for the competition, he said, “I am thrilled to participate in the Ironman Triathlon. As an athlete I love challenging my limits and this one by far is the most exciting one and I look forward to participating in it.
Having participated in various athletic events previously, challenges here at Ironman just get bigger and better. I believe that you need to be passionate about at least one thing to be able to live your life with complete satisfaction.”
Emphasising how sport means much more than just an activity to bide time and why he opted out of his high paying job to pursue his passion, he added, “A job shouldn’t be just a way to pay your bills. For me, it couldn’t get better than helping people to be happy and fit, which is why I am always filled with energy.”
Maintaining running as his calling and excelling in Spain his foremost priority, he signed off thus, “I am really looking forward to this contest, hopefully I will be able to do my country proud.”
