Didier Drogba’s time in Montreal was a rollercoaster ride. There were some beautiful highs and some controversially awkward lows. The former Chelsea superstar joined the Impact in July 2015, after the end of his stint in Turkey with Galatasaray, and immediately began doing what he does best. He was a nightmare for opposition defences at the start of his MLS career, as he scored 11 goals in his first 11 regular season matches, a run that was enough to send the Impact into the playoffs.

He was expected to be the man that carried the side in 2016, but never really got things going after missing four of the season's opening five games - a decision he took to avoid playing on artificial turf. He did manage to record 10 goals and six assists in 22 regular season games, but there was controversy in the penultimate regular season game, even though it did cool off before the playoffs began.

In that game, Drogba refused to come on as a substitute, and that stoked claims that he may leave the Impact immediately, but he stayed on and played in the playoffs, where the Impact were beaten 7-5 on aggregate by Canadian rivals Toronto FC.
