Ronaldo, Romario have reinvented striker's role, says Arsenal legend Thierry Henry

Rio de Janeiro, Dec 6 (IANS) Thierry Henry has paid tribute to former Brazil strikers Ronaldo and Romario, saying they "reinvented" football's centre-forward role.

The 37-year-old Friday said the Selecao World Cup winners and former Liberia striker George Weah had been major influences on his career, reports Xinhua.

"Ronaldo did things nobody had seen before," Henry said in an interview with The Blizzard. "He, together with Romario and George Weah, reinvented the centre-forward position. They were the first to drop from the box to pick up the ball in midfield, switch to the flanks, attract and disorientate the central defenders with their runs, their accelerations, their dribbling. Who had done that before? Gerd Muller? Paolo Rossi? No."

Henry is yet to reveal if he will continue playing after ending his four-year spell with the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer (MLS) last week.
