England and Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, has been linked with a move to League One club, MK Dons. According to BBC, the midfielder has held talks with the London-based club but it is unsure whether Gerrard will retire from playing and take up only a managerial position.
The Dons are in search of a new manager after Karl Robinson exited the club by mutual consent after 6 years at the helm. He left the club after a dreadful start to the season and the club struggling in 19th position in League 1. Richie Barker was appointed as the caretaker manager, but the club have slid further down and are in 21st place and in the relegation zone.

The Liverpool legend recently announced that he will not be extending his contract at MLS club, LA Galaxy, and that he is still assessing all options available to him on and off the field. Gerrard has been linked with a move back to Liverpool after he revealed that the club had made contact with him over a possible return to Anfield.
More fuel was added to the rumours of him returning when current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said that Gerrard was always welcome at Liverpool and went on to further say that there was always a place for the Liverpudlian.
Gerrard has not completed his coaching badges yet but is currently pursuing his Uefa A coaching licence, as quoted from an interview with the Mirror: “I’m around 60 percent through my A licence and I’m hoping to have that finished by the end of the year so we’ll go from there.”
Move to Celtic?
There was also speculation about Gerrard moving to Celtic to reunite with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers in a coaching role. Rodgers has said that he and Gerrard do still keep in touch but was mum about whether he offered Gerrard a role at the Scottish club.
Rodgers said, “There is obviously some speculation. I would never say anything about what we would be doing business wise anyway but I think there is probably a natural focus on him because he is leaving and there is a period now where he can go to a club if he is leaving.
“We’ve kept in touch. Obviously, with the time difference recently, it’s been a bit less. There have been text messages. He was one of the first ones to send me a message when I got the job at Celtic,” said the current Celtic coach.
MK Dons: Club Profile
MK Dons or Milton Keynes Dons F.C. is a club founded in 2004 after the disbanding of former Premier League club Wimbledon. When Wimbledon went into administration in 2003, Pete Winkelman bought the club and changed its logo and name to form MK Dons.
If Gerrard were to get the job, he wouldn’t be the first high-profile player to become manager of MK Dons. Former Manchester United and Liverpool player, Paul Ince, managed the club for a year between 2007 and 2008, and returned to manage the club again in 2009.
After Ince’s first spell in charge of the Dons, Roberto di Matteo managed the club in 2008-09, before Ince’s arrival at the club for the second time.
