General Hospital is an American daytime television soap created by husband-and-wife Frank and Doris Hursley. It premiered on the ABC television network on April 1, 1963, and is set in a hospital in an unnamed fictional city. As the show evolved, this city was eventually identified as Port Charles, New York.

Even after six decades on the air, General Hospital continues to keep the audience hooked with its dynamic plot twists and unique storylines. There are various storylines, such as The Death of BJ Jones, The metro hostage crisis, and many more, that left audiences shaken. However, some storylines over the years have disappointed fans due to their shortcomings or overly extended plots.

Some unsatisfying storylines of General Hospital

1) The Murder of Duke Lavery

In 2015, Duke Lavery was a well-liked character who had built deep connections to most of the major players in Port Charles. His murder, at the hands of Carlos Rivera as part of a mob war, seemed very abrupt and needless. It was upsetting to see his death used merely as a plot device for other storylines.

2) The Peter August Saga

Since 2017, Peter consistently engaged in schemes, lies, and manipulations. Despite numerous opportunities for his arrest, the show often failed to hold him accountable for his evil deeds. It became wearying to wait for his end. In 2022, when Peter finally died, the relief was enormous, but it seemed like it took far too long to come.

3) Franco Baldwin's Death

Franco debuted in 2009 and underwent a significant transformation from a bad guy to a good one. His murder in 2021 at the hands of Peter August was shocking. It felt like a kill-off that was not needed, especially with everything that his character had done. Again, one more character's death was mainly used to advance Peter's storyline.

4) The Sonny Amnesia Storyline

Sonny debuted in 1993 and had been part of the show for a long time. However, his 2021 storyline, where he lost his memory and lived as "Mike" in Nixon Falls, was made to shift him away from the mob. However, the storyline was too stretched out, running into months while it had very little development, and it felt like the essential characters were sidelined, which created a lack of balance in the show.

5) Nelle Benson's Death

The fight between Nelle and Carly Corinthos, which led to the eventual death of Nelle Benson in 2020, was ultimately unsatisfying. She had been the main antagonist for the daily soap opera for a couple of years, and her character died suddenly in what felt like an anticlimactic way. The death did not justify the many wrong deeds she committed.

6) The Baby Swap

In 2020, Nelle Benson swapped her baby with Willow Tait's, leading to Wiley being mistakenly believed to be Michael Corinthos's deceased child on General Hospital. This storyline drew criticism due to the prolonged running of the deception and the seeming lack of consequences for Nelle.

7) The Cult of Dawn of Day

The cult storyline in 2019 of Dawn of Day, led by the charismatic and sinister Shiloh, began with promising potential but became uncomfortable and overly dragged out. The themes of manipulation, assault, and exploitation turned off many General Hospital viewers. While trying to deal with serious themes, the storyline became too dark and sensationalized, which was disappointing to many fans.

8) Nikolas Cassadine's Return

Nikolas Cassadine's return was awaited, but when it came on screen in 2019, it was dissatisfactory since he was a hero in General Hospital. However, the new Nikolas turned out to be scheming and morally ambiguous, manipulating others, even his family, for what he wanted to do. His actions seemed out of character.

9) Ava Jerome's Redemption Arc

In General Hospital, the redemption story of Ava Jerome in 2019 had been quite a bore, considering her dark past. It seemed too fast and unconvincing that it makes someone nurture an evil identity into one desiring redemption after some crimes committed. However, her storyline really didn't do enough justice to the complexity of the character.

10) The Reveal of Jason's Identity

In 2017, the long-awaited revelation that Steve Burton's character was the genuine Jason Morgan on General Hospital was underwhelming. It included complex recollections and character issues and was seen as convoluted. It was especially disillusioned since the storyline had been prodded for so long.
