The Young and the Restless continues to capture viewers' hearts with its dynamics, plot twists, romance, rivalries, and a mixture of hope and fear among the residents of Genoa City. The lives of the Newman, Abbott, Baldwin, and Winters clans continue to dominate the popular daily soap opera.

Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis Summers, has been a part of the iconic CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless since 1994. Since then, the actress left and returned to the show twice. Currently, Stafford continues to grace the screen as Phyllis.

Stafford was born on September 14, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. She has been in the entertainment industry since 1990 and is widely loved by audiences. She is not only an actress but also a screenwriter and producer.

1) Brain tumor diagnosis at the age of 18

Michelle visited the doctor due to her left eyelid swelling, which led to her discovering that she was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 18. Although the tumor was benign, it needed surgery. While it was frightening to deal with it, the surgery reportedly gave her a push to achieve her dreams.


2) Short-term to contract role in The Young and the Restless

Michelle first appeared in the role of Phyllis in 1994. The role was supposed to be short-term, but producers were impressed by her skills, and she was offered a contract role. However, she left the show in 1997 and was replaced by Sandra Nelson.

In 2000, she was brought back into the show and continued to play Phyllis. From December 2006 to February 2007, she portrayed Sheila and Phyllis, dual roles in The Young and the Restless. The actress left the show again in 2013 but returned in 2019 and has been on it ever since.

3) Three-time Daytime Emmy awardee

Michelle was awarded the Daytime Emmys Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2004 and 2024. She also won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1997.

She is also the recipient of three Soap Opera Digest Awards, which are decided by audiences, for Outstanding Female Newcomer in 1996, Outstanding Villainess in 1997, and Outstanding Lead Actress in 2003.


4) Launched a Web series on YouTube

In 2013, Michelle launched her web series 'The Stafford Project' on her YouTube channel on August 5. The series was based on her personal life, experiences, challenges, and struggles.

The series received a positive response from the audience and was appreciated widely. Michael Logan from TV Guide commented,

"terrific and audacious," and continued "there's never a dull moment in the life of Michelle Stafford".

5) An Entrepreneur

In 2016, Michelle launched her skincare product line, Skin Nation. It is said to be organic, natural, gluten-free, and cruelty-free, as certified by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Skin Nation has received a positive response from the buyers. To date, it has a 76% 5-star rating on Amazon.


Michelle also appeared on General Hospital as Nina Reeves. However, in 2019, it was announced that the actress would leave the show and reprise her character as Phyllis in The Young and the Restless.
