The Young and the Restless (Y&R), a long-standing daytime TV show in the US, has been entertaining viewers since it started in 1973. Created by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, Y&R is set in the fictional Genoa City, where lives, relationships, and family histories are filled with mystery and intense drama.
Throughout the years, the show has featured famous families and unforgettable stories. In the beginning, the Brooks and Foster families were key, but later, the show focused on the Newmans, Abbotts, and Winters families.
Some of its longest-running conflicts, such as the feud between Jill Abbott and Katherine Chancellor, and Jack Abbott and Victor Newman, have become famous in soap opera history.
October 2024 on The Young and the Restless brings fresh intrigue to Genoa City with several returns, reintroducing familiar faces and rekindling past tensions.
This month, viewers can expect new layers of drama as characters like Amy Lewis, Harmony, and Elena Dawson step back onto the canvas.
There won't be any characters leaving, so fans of Y&R can look forward to a month filled with reunions and unexpected turns.
The Young and the Restless: The returns and exits for October 2024
1) Valarie Pettiford as Amy Lewis
Valarie Pettiford brings Amy Lewis back to Genoa City after a long time as she was last seen in 1988. Amy’s return to The Young and the Restless brings back old memories and some hidden secrets of Nate’s half-brother Damian, as she once had a romantic past with Nate's father, Nathan Hastings (played by Nathan Purdee).
Pettiford first appeared on screen after her return on October 29. Fans can look forward to new developments for the Winters family and the mystery surrounding her reappearance.
2) Chene Lawson as Harmony Hamilton
Harmony, Devon’s real mother, played by Chene Lawson, returns to Genoa City for Devon and Abby's wedding. Viewers last saw Harmony in May 2023, and her presence is expected to add an emotional depth to Devon’s special day.
Besides acting, Lawson is a successful podcast producer, winning a Webby Award for All Things Undone, which she co-created. Her next project, Amorph, will premiere in 2025 on Audible, ensuring her influence extends well beyond daytime television.
3) Loren Lott as Ana Hamilton
Loren Lott is back as Devon’s sister, Ana, who was last seen in 2019 before she left to take care of her sick father. Ana’s return for Devon’s wedding helps bring the family together for the celebration, but fans might wonder if she still worries about her brother.
While away from The Young and the Restless, Lott acted in Praise This and appeared in All American: Homecoming. She also has a part in Based on a True Story, which will be available on Peacock in November.
4) Hayley Erin as Claire Grace
Hayley Erin, who is known to play the role of Abby Newman, has returned to Genoa City as a completely new character named Claire Grace. This character has been teased as having connections to Newman Media, a company currently fraught with intrigue.
Erin’s first appearance as Claire on October 2 brings new challenges for the Newmans, especially as she deals with the company’s chaotic environment.
5) Brytni Sarpy as Dr. Elena Dawson
After a long time away since spring 2023, Brytni Sarpy plays her role as Dr. Elena Dawson again. Sarpy hinted that she was coming back by posting on Instagram to celebrate the show's 13,000th episode, which will air on November 13.
With Devon’s wedding coming up, Elena’s return might cause some tension because of their past relationship.
Thankfully, fans of The Young and the Restless can breathe easy this month, as no major character exits are slated, keeping Genoa City’s beloved residents right where they belong.
Fans of The Young and the Restless can watch the new episodes of the show on CBS and Paramount Plus.
