Days of Our Lives: On Chad DiMera’s 10th Anniversary, Actor Billy Flynn reveals why playing Chad is “best job in the world”

Days of Our Lives cast member Billy Flynn celebrated a decade as Chad DiMera on September 12, 2024. He made his debut on the soap in September 2014 and has been playing the character ever since.

In an interview with TV Insider on September 11, Flynn discussed his role and experience on the sets of the soap for 10 years. The actor opened up about the casting for the job and how it changed the course of his life. He revealed that he was grateful for the character and that playing Chad was the "best job in the world" for him, as he mused back on his years. He said:

"I like that I have a home [at DOOL].’ It’s the best job in the world. I get to make a living, and I get to be around for my kids. I think the past 10 years have just been a constant evolution of gratitude that I’ve been working for 10 years in this business."

Currently, Chad DiMera's current plot dynamics on Days of Our Lives revolve around his wife Abigail, who has returned to Salem with memory loss and a new face. The family is trying to adjust to this new reality and re-assimilate Abigail into the family again, especially into Chad's life.

What did Billy Flynn say about his character Chad DiMera and his time on Days of Our Lives?

Billy Flynn started off the interview by explaining how he came to be on Days of Our Lives. He remembered how his manager made him overcome his skepticism about soaps and go to the screen test for Chad DiMera.

He remembered a chemistry test with actress Kate Mansi, who played Abigail on the soap at the time. He then recalled how casting director Marnie Saitta reached out to him and offered him the role. Flynn's first memory of a red carpet event as a cast member is one that he still looks upon fondly. He said:

"We did a press tour and I was like, ‘God, this is big.’ I just remember thinking, ‘I feel like a star,’ which in hindsight now is funny because I live in the suburbs outside of L.A. and nobody really knows anything about what I do for a living."

He also reflected upon how Abigail and Chad became a super couple, and how his personal life also mirrored the things that happened with his character. He appreciated both Kate Mansi and AnnaLynne McCord for giving their all in their renditions of Abigail, which made him a better performer too.

Flynn also mentioned that he would like to work more with Holly Jonas and Tate Black because that would be an interesting dynamic for his character to explore. The actor added that Days of Our Lives felt like home to him. He said:

"It’s just been great ... that’s the legacy. That’s what affects me the most. It’s an amazing honor to be a part of something like that and to think that maybe you played a small part and added a little bit of value."
