Michael Corinthos of General Hospital fell victim to an explosion planted to take out his father, Sonny Corinthos. Michael was recently embroiled in many other issues including his wife, Willow's affair with Drew Caine/Quartermaine, and his intimacy with Sasha. He had arrived at his father's penthouse to inform him about his decision to divorce Willow.
In a convoluted plot twist, Willow and Drew spent intimate moments while Michael was burning in the raging fire at Sonny's penthouse. While the long-running daily soap has often presented shocking situations, this one has hurt the ABC soap's fans who took to social media to express their discontent.

While fans already felt contempt for Willow Corinthos's affair with Congressman Drew Caine/Quartermaine, they were expecting Michael and Willow to go through a divorce. Fans, who know actor Chad Duell is set to step out of the soap, also hoped that Michael may get the children's custody and leave the town happily.
However, Michael Corinthos met with a fire accident in his father's penthouse leaving him with 40 percent burns and slim chances of survival. About the same time, Michael was swallowed up by the fire, while Willow and Drew were engaged in another of their intimate sessions. Willow was seen wearing her wedding ring in bed with Drew, and Drew emphasized his support for her in all conditions.
The heartbreaking event of Michael on fire was accentuated by the Willow-Drew scene. However, the soap's fans have disliked the drama surrounding Michael's exit along with their disdain for Willow and Drew.

What are the implications of Michael's accident?
The regretful side of Michael's fire accident is the fact that he had just decided to divorce Willow and fight for his kids. He had come to tell his father, Sonny Corinthos, about the same. However, he may not be available to fight for the custody of his children.
The fire that burned Michael started with an explosion from a bomb in Sonny's penthouse. This points to the fact that someone was trying to kill Sonny. Unfortunately, Michael became the victim of the fatal plan, as Carly pointed out. As such Sonny's life is in danger since whoever tried to eliminate him will attempt again. Sonny and Jason will need to dig out the culprit's identity.
Michael's mother, Carly Spencer-Corinthos, is devastated by the accident, as is expected. She may turn to Sonny for comfort besides fearing for Sonny's safety. This tragedy may bring the two exes close. Whether that turns them into a couple again remains to be seen.
On the other hand, a grief-stricken Carly will likely jump into action, as Jack Brennan recently characterized her. She will likely turn her angst to Willow. Since Michael will no longer fight for his children, Carly may challenge Willow in court for custody of Michael's kids.
