The weekly preview of General Hospital for the week of December 9, 2024, is out and creating eager anticipation. The show has been juggling parallel interesting story arcs recently with Lulu's return, Drew and Willow's affair, Ava's case, and the consequence of Sam's death.
As viewers know, General Hospital has been presenting exciting storylines since its premiere in April 1963. The long-running American daily soap focuses on the titular medical facility, including its staff, besides the law enforcers, mobsters, and other residents of the fictional area of Port Charles.
December 9's weekly promo suggests some shockers. One of them is Dex Heller, the PCPD cop, shown to have been attacked from behind. Since the attack looked like a stabbing, fans are worried that Dex may die soon. One viewer named Nancy Garbis commented:
"I love Dex! Don't kill him!"
Nancy was replying to the weekly promo video on the Facebook page of General Hospital. Many others have shared similar views as Nancy.
While some fans lamented Joss losing her boyfriend, others called out the writers for this twist.
Some others debated the reason behind Dex's possible death in the storyline.
General Hospital: What led to fan concern over Dex?
Dex Heller, played by Evan Hoffer, has been part of the General Hospital storyline since May 2022. The Army veteran arrived in town to take up the job of Sonny Corinthos's driver-cum-bodyguard. Although employed by Michael to infiltrate Sonny's business organization, Dex became loyal to Sonny.
Later, Dex Heller joined the PCPD as a cop after he helped rescue Josslyn Jacks from the attack of the Hook Killer. This led to Dex and Joss's romance. The rookie cop was busy helping Dante and Cates nab the criminals in town as per the plot.
The latest preview shows Dex going through a trashcan when someone stabbed him in the back. In one of the other teasers, Dex was seen asking Cyrus about his return to Port Charles, and the ex-criminal assured him it wasn't for Lulu. It is likely that Dex suspects some foul play in Sam's death and is on the verge of getting some proof.
In that case, the real perpetrators of Sam's killing would want to silence Dex. As such, the shot of the attack from the back as he rummages through garbage hints at the murderer wanting to eliminate the cop.
Another scene in the promo shows a gloved hand inserting digitalis into an IV bag. If Dex ends up in the hospital after the attack, the real culprit would try the previously successful method of killing through digitalis.
Is Dex likely to exit the General Hospital storyline?
While the preview shots hint at something ominous awaiting Dex Heller, there is currently no official word from the actor or the soap's production team about Evan Hoffer's exit. As such, the attack on the cop and a subsequent attempt at silencing him may reveal the real culprit.
If Cyrus Renault is the actual perpetrator, he has more than one reason to harm Dex. In the past, Dex, when employed by Sonny, had almost killed Cyrus as instructed by his boss. Although later, a guilty Dex had apologized, there is no assurance that Cyrus forgave him.
Moreover, Cyrus's visits to see a comatose Lulu and trying to have her transferred to another facility speak of as yet unknown mysteries. As suspected, if Cyrus killed Sam McCall, any evidence that Dex can get his hands on will prove tricky. As such, he would want the cop to go before he discovered any evidence.
Stay tuned to ABC on weekdays to catch the upcoming drama on GH as Dex faces one of the greatest dangers of his life.
