General Hospital fame Kelly Monaco remembers co-star Billy Miller on his first death anniversary

Billy Miller on the ABC soap opera General Hospital played the role of Jason Morgan and Drew Cain. The actor met an unfortunate ending as he committed suicide on September 15, 2023, following his long diagnosed Bipolar Disorder.

Billy’s character Jason on the show shared a romantic history with Sam McCall, played by Kelly Monaco. Billy played the role between 2014 and 2019, during which both the co-stars shared a strong bond and even stayed in touch after the actor exited the show.

Now that it has been a year since Billy’s demise, Kelly shared a picture of them in his remembrance on her Instagram which shows both of them holding roses in their mouths. The caption of the post reads:

"Duces “I’ve got your back and you always had mine” I will tell our story soon enough… I love and miss you… and beyond"

How did Billy Miller die?

General Hospital star William John Miller II also known as Billy Miller died on September 15, 2023, and as confirmed by the autopsy reports described by PEOPLE and his mother Patricia Miller in a Soap Opera Digest interview, the actor died due to suicide. Billy shot himself in the head after suffering from long diagnosed Bipolar Disorder.

“He fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years. He did everything he could to control the disease. He loved his family, his friends and his fans but in the end the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life,” said Patricia.

Following the death of Billy, his fans, producers and co-stars shared their condolences in person with his family and on their social media handles. General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini was also among many, who shared the grief of the loss of the beloved actor.

“My favorite thing growing up was hiding out from the rain in our little barn with a tin roof on it, it’s still my favorite sound. Listening to it coming down and the way it gave me peace. - by Billy Miller 2010,” wrote former co-star Amelia Heinle on her Instagram.

General Hospital: The storyline of Jason Morgan when Billy Miller played the role

When Billy Miller started playing Jason Morgan in 2014, the character went through a major shift on General Hospital. Jason was thought to be dead, but Victor Cassadine captured him and brought him back to life with help from Robin Scorpio.

Jason managed to escape but then got into a car crash due to which he got severely injured and lost his memory. Following the accident, Jason went through reconstructive surgeries, which changed his looks and allowed Billy Miller to play the character.

After he recognized himself as Jason, the character could not remember anything else from the past. Even though he was engaged to Elizabeth, Jason's former relationship with Sam McCall reignited, leading him to break up with Elizabeth.

His feelings for Sam grew strong again, and they started to fix their relationship. As Jason slowly remembered pieces of his past, he accepted his old identity but chose not to go back to his mob life. Instead, he decided to concentrate on his family.

Even though Jason tried to stay away from the crime world that he was a part of being the right of Sonny Corinthos, he was dragged into the mud again, when he was wrongly accused of killing someone.

Jason and Sam had to run and hide themselves, following which they got married again. Throughout Miller's story, Jason faced difficult relationships, the pain from losing his memories, and the struggle between his violent past and his wish for a peaceful life with his family.
