The recent developments on the ABC soap opera General Hospital show Lulu Spencer’s fate in jeopardy. The character has been in misery since 2020 when she was injured during a bomb blast at the Floating Rib which led her into a coma.

It’s been over four years since Lulu was in a coma but since August 2024, her storyline has taken a dramatic turn as Lulu needs a liver transplant. It wasn’t clear whether this would be a comeback for the character or a final goodbye until actress Emme Rylan confirmed that Lulu will return to General Hospital. But the question arises, who will play it? It’s certainly not Emmy Rylan.

"Yes, it is true. GH has decided to recast Lulu,” Rylan, wrote on her Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 6.
“Although I am very disappointed with their choice, I am glad to finally have closure. (And thank goodness GH brought all of you fabulous people into my life! Love you guys!),” she further added.

General Hospital: The speculations of who will play Lulu Spencer?

Lulu Spencer on General Hospital was first introduced on August 8, 1994, as the daughter of Luke and Laura Spencer. The character of Lulu has been played by multiple actresses including child actors Amanda and Kerriane Harrigton (1994-1995), Clare and Maribel Moses (1995), and Alysin and Kelli Griffith (1995–2001).

In 2001, the character was shown as a grown-up played by Stephanie Allen (2001–2003), Tessa Allen (2004–2005), Julie Marie Berman (2005–2013), and lastly was played by Emme Rylan (2013–2020) until the character went into a coma. Now that the character is expected to return to the show, the speculations about the actress who will play the role are swirling around.

At the beginning of August 2024, the show made a casting call under the name of Lauren who was described as “beautiful, dynamic, and fiery.” Reportedly, the casting of the new character hinted to be none other than Lulu. However, it is yet not clear who will be playing Lulu as she returns to General Hospital.

With Rylan not returning, many viewers are wondering if Bernan will also not return to the role. Bernan hasn’t played Lulu since 2013, when Rylan took over. Since the news of Lulu’s liver transplant began to circulate and the search for donors initiated, many of her flashbacks with different characters on General Hospital were all about the time when Julie Berman used to play the character.

The viewers have also seen Tracy Quartemaine (played by Jane Elliot) talking to Dante Falconeri (played by Dominic Zomprogna) as she mentioned that Lulu hadn’t been herself for a long time before she went into the coma.

This discussion also hints at the possibility of Julie coming back as the Lulu that Emme Rylan played was very different from what her character was before she entered. The carefree, brave, and yet sensitive Lulu had transformed into a grown woman and a caring mother.
