General Hospital: Is Julie Marie Berman returning as Lulu Spencer? Confirmed status revealed

Lulu Spencer on the ABC soap opera General Hospital was first played by Julie Marie Berman after the character went through Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome (SORAS) in 2005. The actress remained a part of the show as Lulu for nearly a decade until she exited in 2013.

In 2013, the role was taken over by Emme Rylan who continued to play Lulu until the character went into a coma in December 2020. After four years of being in a coma, Lulu’s return has been confirmed, but there were speculations about who will be playing the role. As Rylan had confirmed that she wouldn’t be the face of Lulu, fans were expecting it to be Julie.

Well, that’s not true, though. Julie Marie Berman is not returning to General Hospital as Lulu Spencer because the character has been recast by Alexa Havins as reported by Daily Confidential.


Why did Julie Marie Berman leave General Hospital?

Julie Marie Berman joined the cast of General Hospital as Lulu Spencer with her first episode aired on October 28, 2005. The actress played the role for seven and a half years after which she left in 2013.

In an interview with Soaps In Depth, Julie revealed that she left the daytime show because she wanted to explore more roles and grow as a versatile actor.

“I always have a desire to grow and challenge myself in other mediums. And there are enough reasons now that my gut is telling me this is the right time to finally let go of ‘GH,” said Berman.

In the same interview, the actress shared that she had given her notice in July 2012, as her contract was supposed to end in November of the same year. But following discussions with the makers and executive producer Frank Valentini, she decided to stay a bit longer.

Finally, Julie Marie Berman shot her last scene on General Hospital as Lulu Spencer on Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Following this, the actress confirmed her departure to fans with a tweet on X on Feburary 27, 2013.

“Hi everyone ... yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life. It hurts to let go of Lulu. Thank u for letting me into ur homes & hearts. X,” wrote Berman in her X post.

After Julie left General Hospital, she guest-starred on Two and a Half Men and Jane the Virgin. In 2015, she started to play Leia in the Hulu comedy series Casual until its second season. The same year, she also appeared as Dr. Samantha "Sam" Zanetti. On NBC medical drama Chicago Med.


Who is Julie Marie Berman?

Julie Marie Berman, who played Lulu Spencer from 2005 to 2013, is an American actress born on November 3, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, United States. The actress was born to Peter and Renee Berman and started acting at the age of six.

She completed her Bachelor’s degree in 2006 in Television and Cinema from the University of Southern California where she was also a member of the Kappa Kappa sorority.

Berman married Michael Grady on August 15, 2008, and the couple had their first child, Asher Dean Grady, on Feburary 18, 2019, and their second, Holden Jeffery Grady, on January 18, 2022.

Julie is well known for her role in General Hospital for which she won three Daytime Emmy Awards, two for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series (2009 and 2010) and one for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (2013).
