General Hospital: Is the show setting up a confrontation between Sonny and Sam?

In General Hospital, Sam McCall, portrayed by Kelly Monaco, has been part of the show since October 1, 2003. She is the daughter of mob boss Julian Jerome and attorney Alexis.

Introduced as a con artist and 'sexy bad girl,' Sam has had complicated relationships with Jason Morgan and Drew Cain, and has also gotten involved in Port Charles' mob world. She has two children, Danny - with Jason, and Scout - with Drew. Over the years, Sam has faced life-threatening situations, family conflicts, and various villains.

With the ongoing track of General Hospital regarding the investigation of John Cate's murder, the makers seem to be setting up a scenario to kill Kelly Monaco, aka Sam, from the show. Although there are no official statements from the actor or the show, Kelly's exit and re-entry seem to be directed to a storyline wherein Sam might be killed off in a confrontation with Sonny.

Kelly Monaco debuted as Sam in 2002 and continues to play the character to this day. However, Lindsay Hartley also briefly played Sam in 2020, 2022, and 2024.

Sam is determined to save her mother, Alexis, who is a key suspect in John's murder. Even though it was revealed that Sonny murdered John, Alexis took care of the gun that caused her trouble.

Sonny, on the other hand, is in no mood to surrender. However, someone needs to take the blame, and Sam will not let her mother or her family be harmed.

Sam's character could be killed off if she's found guilty of the crime on General Hospital

Ava and John have been in a dangerous alliance. He forces Ava to file a case against Kristina, who plays a key role in current storylines. While discussing the case, Kristina falls into the Metro Court Pool, which results in her injuries and the loss of her baby. Kristina is indeed the surrogate of her sister Molly and TJ's baby. However, she is still too attached and is enjoying her pregnancy.

Kristina is determined to punish Ava and seeks help from Sonny, but he suggests she stay calm. Ava gets desperate to kill off John and requests help from Sonny. Sonny decides to have a conversation with John, but it takes a dramatic turn, and Sonny shoots him dead. However, Alexis, who tries to toss the gun, gets caught red-handed.

While she saves Kristina from the case filed by Ava, she becomes a key suspect in John's murder. Sam, on the other hand, knows that John was killed by Sonny and that her mother is innocent. However, Alexis's statement that she was the one who had driven alone to meet John kept her in a tight spot.

Meanwhile, Michael has cleverly chosen his family over supporting Sam or seeking justice. Sonny also knows Sam's intentions but won't harm her since she tries to help her mother. It seems like Sonny won't let Alexis suffer for the crime, but given the history, he won't surrender either.

Sam might take the blame on herself or will have to find some other way to prove that Sonny committed the crime.
