General Hospital spoilers: Is Ava planning to kill John Cates?

General Hospital aired its latest episode on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, and brought another twist for the viewers. It showed Ava and continued the ongoing storyline of the court case, with her being on the verge of being on the safer side.

Viewers of the show have seen Ava be an ally to John Cates in a number of his schemes, including teaming up with him to eliminate Sonny. However, she soon realized that the alliance was a red flag when Cates forced her to accuse Kristina of attempted murder.

In the show's current storyline, Ava is desperate to break the alliance with John, but she knows that it might get her in trouble. Since John knows too many of her secrets, she believes that she has no choice but to kill him.

Fans have speculated that Ava might team with Sonny as she is close to John and can weaponize personal intelligence against him. Meanwhile, it is also worth noting that Sonny has resources and information that he can use to make sure that John disappears from Port Charles.

However, fans have also noted that Ava isn't strong enough to kill John, but Sonny has access to John's son and can use him for the same. At the same time, Kristina is mourning the loss of her child and can attack Ava.


Ava's current storyline on General Hospital

Currently, in the General Hospital storyline, Ava is the antagonist who tries to lure John into helping her win her custody battle with Sonny over Tripp. John is an FBI agent who has a few grudges with Sonny, which is why he decides to help Ava seek revenge.

As her partnership with John grows, he forces Ava to file a case of attempted murder against Kristina, leaving Ava terrified. At the same time, Ava is desperate to break her partnership with John and seeks Sonny's help.

Kristina also remains the key character in Ava's storyline. In the Metro Court, the two women get into a fight about the court case, which leads to Ava accidentally pushing Kristina, who falls into a swimming pool and loses her baby.

Kristina, who is now mourning the death of her baby, also has to face the court, but Sonny and the rest of the family stand by her as she grieves the loss. She is furious at Ava, leading Sonny and Alexis to seemingly believe that Kristina might harm Ava.

At the same time, Molly, Kristina's sister and the biological mother of the child she was carrying, is keen on punishing the person responsible for the death of her child. However, it is Kristina's actions that will eventually decide Ava's fate on General Hospital.

Who plays Ava in General Hospital?

Maura West has been essaying the character of Ava in General Hospital since May 8, 2013. Her character is a member of the Jerome crime family and Maura's acting earned her critical acclaim for the role.

Maura was born on April 27, 1972, in Springfield, Massachusetts. She started her acting career with As the World Turns in 1995, where she portrayed the character of Carly Tenney Synder. She then played the role of Diane Jenkins for a short time on The Young and the Restless, immediately after As the World Turns in 2010. She followed this with her role as Ava on General Hospital.

She received critical acclaim for her acting and won several Daytime Emmy Awards, establishing herself as one of the best actresses of the genre. Her portrayal of Ava in General Hospital was what got her more prominence in the industry, along with several other awards.


General Hospital premiered on April 1, 1963, on the ABC television network and is one of the longest-running soaps in the US. It continues to keep the audiences hooked on television with its compelling plots and dynamic twists.
