On the ABC soap opera General Hospital, Emmy Rylan was the last to portray Lulu Spencer when the character met an accident at the Floating Rib restaurant in Port Charles. Lulu has been in a coma since 2020 due to multiple injuries she suffered in the bomb blast on December 1, 2020.
The recent developments on General Hospital show the fate of Lulu Spencer hanging as she deals with liver failure while in a coma. Laura Spencer (her mother), Dante Falconeri (ex-husband), and several other people in Port Charles are trying their best to find a donor for Lulu, but fans are eager to know whether their efforts will wake Lulu up.
This news may come as a relief to fans of Lulu and General Hospital, but the character will be re-casted on the show, as confirmed by the actress Emmy Rylan. However, the actress confirmed that she will not return to take over the role, as the show decided to go with a different face.
General Hospital: What changes can Lulu's return bring to Port Charles?'
Since Lulu Spencer has been in a coma for the last four years, things have changed a lot in Port Charles. The viewers have seen Laura Spencer desperately trying to find her son, Lucky Spencer, who she believes can save her sister's life. With the parallel return of Lucky Spencer to General Hospital, who is in trouble himself, things might go rough as the characters navigate through their problems.
Lucky is seen handcuffed and caught up in jail with big muscle guys watching him out. As the show announced that Sam McCall will be soon killed, there is the possibility that Sam, being a private investigator, might get into a mission to save Lucky for Lulu since Sam is close to both Laura and Dante.
If Sam dies during the rescue mission, Lulu and Dante might also get back together after Lulu gets a donor, which could be Lucky. Other than these storylines, Charlotte Cassadine might also return to Port Charles to her mother as her father, Valentin, took her on his run to save himself from law enforcement and Sonny Corinthos due to his involvement in Pikeman.
Will Emme Rylan return as Lulu?
Emme Rylan, who previously played Lulu Spencer on General Hospital before the character went into a coma, will not be returning to reprise the role this time. According to an Instagram story by the actress, she announced that she will not be appearing as Lulu; however, the character will return to Port Charles.
Previously, in a 2023 interview with Soap Opera Digest, the actress expressed her desire to reprise the role when and how the character wakes up from the coma.
"I have made it very clear to General Hospital that I am always available to play Lulu should she ever want to wake up," said Rylan.
Emme Rylan posted on her Instagram story on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, expressing her gratitude about getting to play Lulu back then but at the same time showing her disappointment for not being considered again to continue the role. Rylan wrote in her post:
"Yes, it is true. GH has decided to recast Lulu."
She further added:
"Although I am very disappointed with their choice, I am glad to finally have closure. (And thank goodness GH brought all of you fabulous people into my life! Love you guys!)."
