Ric Lansing, played by Rick Hearst on General Hospital since his debut on November 8, 2002, returned to Port Charles on August 22, 2024. Ric, who was previously a recurring character until his exit in 2016, has always been portrayed by Hearst, except for a brief period in 2007 when Nick Kirizis took over.
His return comes as his daughter, Molly Lansing, and the town mourn the loss of Molly and TJ’s unborn child, carried by Kristen Corinthos. Ric is now focused on the relationship he's most invested in.
Ric Lansing’s journey on General Hospital has been of a troublemaker who can even put his loved ones at stake when it comes to fulfilling his goals. The relationship between Ric Lansing and Elizabeth Webber on the show General Hospital is marked by strong emotions of love, betrayal, and unsettled feelings. Their story began in 2003 when Ric first came to Port Charles. Even though it started as an exciting love story, soon because of a complex and troubling series of events their relationship was affected.
Ric and Elizabeth's relationship started with a strong bond, but it soon became messy because of Ric’s obsession with his half-brother Sonny Corinthos. This focus often caused trouble for Elizabeth and led to numerous betrayals.
In a September 2, 2024 interview with Soap Opera Digest, Rick Hearst mentioned that even with their difficult history, he thinks that Elizabeth was always the one person Ric tried not to hurt.
“Elizabeth has always been that one person who, for the most part, he never wanted to be that collateral damage,” said Hearst.
“But he knows how much collateral damage he has indeed left on her and their relationship,” he added.
Ric and Liz got married two times. Their first marriage didn't work out because Ric kidnapped Carly, to get back at Sonny for his mother's death and his difficult past. Their second marriage also didn't work because Ric kept trying to get revenge on Sonny. Even though things didn't work out, it seemed like the love they once had for each other never completely ended.
“The feelings stay there; the genuine nature of who the two of them were at the beginning of their relationship has never left,” said Rick.
Rick Hearst hinted at the urge of Ric going back to Liz.
"The more he actually interacts with Elizabeth and makes advances and movements toward her while he’s in town, the more he’s going to understand that this is a different time — but he ain’t giving up!” he said.
During the time Ric was gone, Liz has been dealing with heartbreaks due to the unsuccessful relationships she had with Franco and Finn, which has left her vulnerable. This might call for the reunion of both characters, however, there is nothing certain on General Hospital, looking at the unexpected turns that the makers come up with.
