General Hospital spoilers: Portia to discuss what happened with Lulu’s part of the transplant

Recently, Lulu Spencer had a liver transplant procedure on General Hospital which led to the donor, Sam McCall's death. While Sam's family and friends are deep in grief, the hospital staff try to understand the reason behind the unexpected demise. Dr. Portia Robinson, an MD at the medical facility was seen looking into the receiver's wellbeing as she approached the operating surgeon, Dr. Isaiah Gannon.

For newly introduced fans, General Hospital is one of the longest-running American soaps, airing on ABC since April 1963. The soap's plot revolves around the titular hospital, its staff, and the residents of the local town of Port Charles. The storyline often presents emotional twists that necessitate the exits and re-entry of some characters.

Two such characters are Lulu Spencer, who was in a coma for years, and had a liver transplant operation, and Sam McCall, who donated part of her liver but passed away suddenly after a successful surgery.

The General Hospital episode dated November 6, 2024, saw Portia Robinson, played by Brook Kerr, reaching out to Lucas Jones to ask him to get some rest at home. While Lucas refused to go home, she found Brad enquiring about the release of Sam's autopsy report.

As Portia met Isaiah Gannon, played by Sawandi Wilson, she called him to her office to discuss Lulu's surgery. Isaiah was part of the team that operated on Lulu Spencer, and the operation had already been announced as successful.

However, the donor, Sam McCall died suddenly, a fact that Portia asked Isaiah to comment on. Isaiah pointed out that Sam wasn't her patient and Lucas Jones had done things perfectly as far as he knew.

When Portia asked him whether Lucas could have made any mistakes since he was operating on his sister, Isaiah wondered if Portia was looking for a scapegoat to take up the responsibility for Sam's death.

How did Sam's death come about on General Hospital?

When doctors diagnosed Lulu Spencer with a liver ailment that needed a transplant, Sam McCall was found a match among all Port Charles residents. Knowing that a liver transplant operation is safe for the donor, Sam volunteered to donate a part of her liver to save the comatose Lulu. Moreover, she insisted her half-brother, Lucas Jones, operate on her.

The transplant operation was declared to be successful. A relieved Dante Falconeri proposed to Sam and the duo got engaged to be married. However, as Sam gave the happy news to her mother, Alexis Davis, her condition deteriorated unexpectedly.

While the medical team including Lucas, Portia and Elizabeth tried their best, they couldn't save Sam. The deceased Sam was taken for autopsy and TJ informed the bereaved family while handing them Sam's engagement ring.

While everyone is waiting for the autopsy reports to come out, Portia is looking for answers for the unprecedented turn of events. She wonders whether extra pressure pushed Lucas to make mistakes in the surgical procedure. On the other hand, Lucas was seen leafing through Sam's medical file and checking with his medical book to look for the cause of Sam's death.
