Actor Evan Hofer exited General Hospital as his character, Dex Heller, died mysteriously due to an inexplicable cardiac arrest. Dex was a rookie cop in the Port Charles Police Department besides being Josslyn's romantic partner. Dex's sudden death after a successful surgery was the second in the hospital that led to an inquiry.
Dex needed the surgery because he was stabbed from behind during one of his routine daytime patrols. The police department and Commissioner Anna Devane started investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, longtime General Hospital fans know the long-running ABC daily soap has been presenting unexpected twists in its storyline since its premiere in April 1963. The soap's plot pivots on the titular hospital located in the fictional Port Charles township, and includes the hospital's staff, resident families, and law enforcement departments.

General Hospital: Dex's death leads to many questions
Josslyn Jacks found out that Dex Heller's stab injury was mild and his medical operation was a success. She met him post-surgery when they had an emotional discussion about taking a relaxed vacation. Fans may remember, Dex was stabbed in the back by an as-yet-unknown assailant from behind.
As such, she found it unbelievable that the young policeman had a fatal cardiac arrest. A grieving Josslyn told Jason Morgan that she intended to find out the truth behind Dex's death and that she owed this closure to him. She is likely to collaborate with the investigating team or conduct her own investigation.
Just like Joss, who was baffled by Dex's death despite good post-operative recovery, Anna Devane was also worried about Dex's stabbing. As she shared with Felicia and Mac Scorpio, Anna was puzzled by the fact that Dex was stabbed during his patrol round, in broad daylight. She believed Dex was specifically targeted.
Anna would want to find an answer to the reason for targeting Dex, a rookie cop. Going forward, she may hold an inquiry to get to the bottom of what Dex was involved in or what he might have known to necessitate being silenced.
Simultaneously, the hospital will also be conducting an inquiry into the unprecedented deaths of Dex Heller, and Sam McCall before him. Since both deaths occurred under the watch of head nurse, Elizabeth Webber, she would likely be relieved from her duties temporarily.
As Dr. Portia Robinson informed Liz and Lucky Spencer, the committee would check surveillance cameras and other evidence to look for the assailant. The General Hospital audience already knows former mobster Cyrus Renault pushed Digitalis into Sam's IV bag causing her cardiac arrest. Since Dex's death occurred similarly, Digitalis might be the cause of his death as well.
As the current plot dynamics hint, Cyrus Renault could have been behind Dex's death since Dex questioned him about his presence at the hospital during Halloween.
It might have been a matter of time before Dex would have equated Cyrus's presence with Sam's death. As such, the ex-criminal needed to eliminate the cop before he reached the obvious conclusion.
It can be expected that independent investigations by the hospital, the police department, and Joss will tie up to point at the real culprit of the deaths on General Hospital.
General Hospital: What are other Port Charles residents likely to face?
With Dex's death, Josslyn is devastated and single. While she is determined to look into Dex's death mystery, she has friends, Trina and Gio supporting her emotionally. Josslyn actor, Eden McCoy, told Soap Opera Digest that her character will have a challenging storyline.
The chaos in the Qurtermaine mansion will spill over. The mansion already houses Jason Morgan and Dante Falconeri with their kids after Sam's death, besides the Quartermaine family members. However, with Drew's affair with Willow exposed, Jason and his twin, Drew are at loggerheads in the house.
Lulu Spencer, recently out of a four-year-long coma, is also likely to stay at the Q mansion near her son, Rocco. As Jason and Anna try to get Charlotte Cassadine to mother Lulu, wanted crook Valentin Cassadine will pose a problem.
Actor Chad Duell, who plays Michael Corinthos, is slated to exit General Hospital in the upcoming new year. With Michael's wife, Willow, cheating on him with Drew, this cue might play out his exit story arc. Meanwhile, Carly, upset with Jason for not revealing Drew's secret affair, will also want to attack Drew despite Jason asking her to step back.
