Victor was introduced as the ruthless CEO of Newman Enterprises. He was abandoned by his parents, Albert and Cora Miller, and was raised in an orphanage. He was born Christian Miller and later adopted the name Victor Newman.

Victor married Julia Newman in 1980, but the marriage ended in divorce due to his infidelity and controlling nature. Later that year, he met Nikki Reed and has been in an on-and-off relationship with her since then. They have two children, Victoria and Nicholas Newman.

Victor cheats on Nikki with Ashley Abbott, who ends up pregnant but has an abortion. However, later on, she had a daughter, Abby Newman, using Victor's stored sperm without his permission in 2000.

Victor clashed with Jack Abbott when he took over Jabor Comestics in 1985. Jack retaliated by marrying Nikki. Jack then hires Leanna Love to write a book about Victor, including the details of his affairs. Their rivalry has since continued on the soap.

In 1993, Victor develops a bond with Hope Adams and has a son, Adam Newman, with her. They end up divorcing and moving back to Kansas to raise Adam with her second husband, Cliff Wilson.

In 2008, Victor married Sabrina Costelna, who died in August of that year after being in a car accident. Victor struggled to deal with her death and isolated himself to seek revenge on the people who caused the accident.

In 2009, Victor had a heart transplant after being injured in an attack caused by Patty Williams.

In 2015, Victor replaced Jack with a doppelganger, Marco Annicelli, hoping to gain control over Jabot Cosmetics. However, Victor faced legal troubles when Marco committed crimes while impersonating Jack. Victor was imprisoned in 2016.

While in prison, Victor disowned his family as they testified against him. During his time in time, he orchestrated a plan to help his son, Adam, escape as he was framed for murder.

In 2018, Victor was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. This led to reconciliation with his family. However, when he used this disorder to stage his death, his family disowned him, though he justified his actions as necessary to protect his company.

Victor launched Newman Media, which involved his children and grandchildren. He groomed Abby to take over Newman Enterprises.
